As an independent member of this riding community I am always so amazed and proud of the clubs for the rallying they do to get things done and help each other and the general community... this past couple of weeks proves again how much of a 'community' we all are, whether we ride alone or in groups, it takes each one of us to make a difference...
A week or so ago, our community experienced tragedy and trying times for some of our motorcycle family... first Companeros MC Bob Hunter lost his home in a fire that took everything and he was left with the clothes he was wearing... the riding community, clubs and independents alike rallied together for a benefit at the Lone Star Bar in Leander, to help Bob and his family out... Then even more tragedy struck as new spread quickly of a horrble accident Thursday night that took the young life of 12 year old Gypsy Jr Member 'Air Raid'... Shalyah Dames, the youngest daughter of Gypsy Mad Lib & Gypsy Minnie Me, had been struck by a car as she attempted to cross Gattis School Road in Round Rock...
Shaylah had been at the Clay Madsen Rec center, across the street from the subdivision her family resides in... there is no cross walk there, no signal light and in fact poor lighting in general...
Both of these incidents have brought our biker family together in ways that we often support others... and Bob is well on his way to building a new home and recovering from this loss... the riding community will continue to be there for him helping out as needed wherever they can...
Laura & Billie Dames' loss of a child is much harder to fatham, harder to relate to and is such a horrific ordeal to have to go through, one can only pray for their peace of mind and heart, as they and their older daughter Peyton make their way through the grief of losing Shalylah... presently both Mad Lib & Minnie Me are not working and they need our support in so many ways and without hesitation they will get it...
on this past Saturday at least a couple hundred people, many of them from our riding community, attended a rally of awareness in honor of Shaylah, as we gathered at the accident scene to help the city of Round Rock understand how vitally important it is for them to place a safe crossing from the rec center to this residential neighborhood directly across the very busy four lanes of Gattis School Rd.... adults found it difficult in broad daylight to cross the busy four lanes of traffic... at some point Round Rock police showed up to be the crosswalk so people could safely cross from the Rec center to the church across the road where the rally was being held... we also contributed money at the event, to help the Dames family cover the cost of a funeral for their daughter...
At the COC&I meeting today, Sunday Jan 31... we passed hats and buckets and raised just less then $1300 for the Dames family to hlep with their expenses... which in time will most likely include not just the medical & hospital expenses, as well as funeral costs but there may also be counseling for the family to help them through this senseless tragedy.
Whether you were a participant in any of these events or offered your prayers or perhaps a fiancial donation, you can be proud of the fact that you did come together with all of us and helped make a difference for both of these families during their time of need...
I know it will take some time to ever replace a home one has built up for years and certainly nothing can ever fill the void in the hearts of a family when a loved one is lost... but as we all come together in support, financially, emotionally and in any other way they may need us... these two families will find solace in knowing they are not alone...they have a family that they can count on without even asking.
Anyone wishing to make a donation may send into the following secure account... to send money into it and it will then go directly to the family. You can write a check, or direct deposit/transfer

Are you ready to make a difference in your riding community?
Pick up a copy of Biker Living, heck, pick up a handful and share them...

‘Biker Living’ presents a motorcyclists view of the rider’s, biker lifestyle... for, by and about the riders of a local area... our purpose is to assist in promoting upbeat, healthy, safe and personable riding communities. We help build the 'bridges' that connect every facet of the riding community by providing an outlet through our print publication... Biker Living, with the help of our incredible advertising sponsors, provides the space for you, in fact for all of us that love to ride around here, to share, educate, inform and network!

The idea of creating a 'Biker-People' magazine was inspired by the riding communites of Central Texas... the heart of it being Austin, where changes are being made within the riding communities here that affect bikers nationwide and even globally based on the efforts of Club Members and Independent Riders who see that we are not just motorcycle riders... but a community of people that are capable of huge positive changes in our world!
Through the United Clubs of Texas, the Texas Confederation of Clubs & Independents, the U.S. Defenders and COIR (Coalition of Independent Riders) we have become a real community, a family that cares for each other and watches out for each other. It is because of these efforts, which common media chooses to not notice, that 'Biker Living!' was born... no sixty second television clip on a rainy toy run day can tell the general community all that we do... with your input, the pages of this little rag can though... Biker Living has become a voice, not in anger, no rants.. just the simple honest truth of our lifestyle... as seen in every overstuffed page of every overstuffed issue, filled with the activities you are involved in... and hey, we're a busy community, aren't we... we have a lot to share, a lot to be proud of, so there's no room for 'white space' around here!

We share stories of our lives, our passions... we share informative articles to help make every mile of road you travel a bit easier... we share educational and political information to keep you abreast of what is being done within this great riding community so that you can make better choices and become a part of it in a way where you feel you would best fit...
Everyone has a place in life...
You are welcome to join us,
Club Member or Independent rider...
No matter what you ride, or don't ride...

Our Goal at 'Biker Living'... is to have fun, ride, make friends
and did I mention have fun... hey, we're Bikers!
{Benefit for Breast Cancer produced a split second 'flash' that the camera caught, so we had to use this shot somehow... :) }
... or people who like bikers... or people bikers like... hey, we just wanna have fun... and ride of course! But we also want to do what we do... and share what we share... and that's what this little rag is all about... so get out there, pick one up somewhere, drop some off somewhere and become a part of this readin' ridin' rollin' family too!
In case you haven't found a copy yet and wonder why you should bother... We fill every page to the edges with as much as we can, depending on what you've sent us from the events, benefits, rides and meetings you've been rollin out to... and you can tell by all the photos that this riding community does not sit still or 'wonder' what to do next... our events pages are testament to that! Check out the calendar pages of this website, every month is busy!
Our purpose in creating Biker Living is...To bridge the gaps of all facets of our riding communities... to help us all become a "People" as some like to call us... and the way we do that is to share the stories, tales and local event information of all the folks that love to ride around here!
WE HELP PROMOTE a healthy upbeat outlook of YOUR incredibly personable riding community... and beyond... so that you can more interestingly participate in it yourself!
We are rollin' through our fourth road trip and every one of them has been different... and every one ahead will be different too... For most of the past three years, Biker Living has beeen printed monthly and always picked up FREE of charge at many locations in Central Texas, primarily in and around Austin, including the Hill Country and as far north as Temple and Harker Heights and as far south as Gruene and New Braunfels... and more!

As an example, these pics
from throughout the past year
show we sure don't
sit still around here much at all!
Hey, did ya know... Beginning with the November '09 issue, the 4th Road Trip:

If it isn't time dependent, such as an upcoming event, or reporting on a recent event... We'll get it all into the best upcoming issue, simply email us at bikerliving@yahoo.com!
Our Advertisers... WOW!
Quite frankly, we'd be nothing without them... this little rag got started on the two quarters in my back pocket and two local advertisers that had faith in my dream, and the bikers of CENTRAL TX...
Hell ya, we got bikers working out there in the community and they just wanna show their support of all we do... so come on, lets show our appreciation by supporting their businesses, lets keep them rollin, they'll keep us rollin... that's what this community & lifestyle is all about!!
We have a wide range of advertisers and everyone of them deserves our patronage... so be sure to stop by, say hello and thank them for all they do for us... and hey, be sure to tell 'em Biker Living sent ya!
PLEASE, take note ESPECIALLY of who these advertisers are IN THE CURRENT ISSUES and when doing business with them, let them know you saw their ad or listing in the pages of Biker Living... tell 'em thanks, whether it's the owner, a mechanic or salesperson, even if you've told them before or have been a long time customer of theirs... just let them know we all appreciate their support... they like to know we noticed, it'll make them smile and it'll ensure future issues get printed! That's your job, here, do it well.
ALSO... check out the 'Spokes in our wheels...' tab of this website's index, for easy access links to our supporting advertisers' websites!
IF YOU are a business owner interested in sponsoring Biker Living and the voices of this great riding community, drop us an email at bikerliving@yahoo.com and we'll send you the rate sheet... we appreciate any and all support and so do our readers!
Hey, wanna know more? Simply drop us an email at bikerliving@yahoo.com then we'll see you out on the road...be sure to say hello!
And hey, remember to be safe, always ride defensively... C. (and yes, I do inhale, during the ... ) LOL
